Starfish Early Alert System

Starfish is an early alert system designed to facilitate communication between instructors, students, academic advisors and other campus resources. Through an institutionalized partnership with EAB, the college invested in the early alert system as a way to proactively communicate with students in their college journey. A grant-funded Starfish Administrator was hired to design a training model, and provide service and resource access to students, faculty and staff. The Starfish Administrator has redesigned the STC Starfish website to include step-by-step PDF and video instructions and has developed an intervention plan for students flagged for support. During year two of the grant, the college invested in an Administrative Assistant to assist the Starfish Administrator with the various duties and functions of the Starfish platform. Additionally, in year two, the college will hire a Guided Pathway Specialist to provide additional support to the Starfish team. Aligned with the DHSI program, STC plans to institutionalize the Starfish Administrator position after grant expiration to sustain the important services this position has established to support student persistence.
