Public Information Requests
Texas Public Information Act
Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code, commonly referred to as the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), grants the public the right to access records maintained by Texas governmental entities. Under the TPIA, these entities must provide requested information they possess, unless the information is protected from disclosure by the TPIA or other applicable state or federal laws. However, the TPIA does not obligate governmental bodies to answer questions, conduct legal research, create new records in response to a request, or fulfill ongoing requests for information on a recurring basis.
South Texas College Procedures
South Texas College processes all public information requests in accordance with the Texas Public Information Act and Board Policy GCB: Requests for Information. All public information requests are processed through the Office of the President, located in the Ann Richards Administration Building, Section A, Suite 140. The Public Records Information Specialist is responsible for the processing of all requests.
