The Office of the President

It brings me much joy and enthusiasm to serve as President of this premier, forward-thinking institution whose stellar reputation has placed it among the best in the nation.

Over nearly three decades, South Texas College’s long-lasting commitment to eliminate structural barriers in higher education and pledge to serve low-income, first-generation, students for improvement in the quality of life for their families and the community is in our ideology of creating a “college-going” culture.

It has been this guiding force that led South Texas College to successfully increase the educational attainment levels in the Rio Grande Valley through the development of premier academic and workforce programs that help create a region of higher wage jobs and economic development.

South Texas College not only offers a myriad of degree and certificate program options, but we also offer a myriad of continuing and professional education opportunities and are the only community college in Texas to offer 5 baccalaureate degrees. We have one of the largest Dual Enrollment Programs in the state offering thousands of Valley high school students the chance to accelerate their higher education with free college credit. And our Distance Education Program has been a model for colleges across the state and nation.

Despite all our accomplishments, our work has not concluded. South Texas College continues to invest in a long-term institutional vision of improving the quality of life for our communities through a commitment to academic excellence and student success. The regional workforce landscape produced by changes in technology and industry demands require we continue to explore, develop, and foster new programs and partnerships to better prepare our students to be successful in the ever-changing, complex world we live in.

As president, I am fully committed to serving this region and its communities. Together we will bring forth new concepts, opportunities, and strategies and build on the legacy that is South Texas College. I look forward to leading these endeavors with the highly talented team of faculty and staff and continuing to improve, innovate, and transform higher education to new levels that attribute to student excellence and success.

It is my mission to increase continuous innovation for returning students and adults, ongoing globalization, continuing South Texas College’s current position as national leader in baccalaureate program offerings, and transforming the college in preparation for new and emerging opportunities that lie ahead.

As we usher in this new era of excellence and opportunity, I am confident our initiatives and priorities will be grounded in our shared mission to serve our students.

It is an honor to work alongside STC's amazing faculty and staff, and to serve as your president.

Sinceramente,

Dr. Ricardo J. Solis
