“The Queen of Texas Pop History” to speak at STC’s libraries

Mona Sizer

Local author Mona Sizer will share her tales about some of the most eccentric and interesting personalities to ever come out of the Lone Star State at STC’s Libraries Feb. 7 and Feb. 21.

It has been said that everything in Texas is larger than life, and Mona Sizer’s books are no exception. Sizer, who is the queen of quirky Texas historical writing, loves to spin tales about the remarkable lives of some of the most eccentric, extravagant and interesting personalities to ever come out of the Lone Star State.

The local author will share her stories and talk about her latest book “Outrageous Texans: Tales of the Rich and Infamous” at South Texas College’s Mid-Valley Campus Library on Feb. 7 and at the college’s Pecan Campus Library on Feb. 21. Both events begin at 10:30 a.m., and are free and open to the public.

Sizer is the author of 35 books of contemporary and historical adult fiction, young adult and adult non-fiction, romance, true crime and poetry, including “The King Ranch Story, Truth and Myth,” “Texas Heroes,” “A Dynasty of Courage” and “Before the Wind: Poems out of my Life and Thought.”Copies of her books will be on sale during the events, and the author will hold a book signing before and after the programs.

A former teacher and noted lecturer, Sizer was contacted recently by Jordan Bloch Enterprises regarding her script “The Librarian” for a possible Hollywood short film production. She has been recognized as the “Most Innovative Novelist” twice by “Romantic Times Magazine”for her romantic fiction, which she wrote under the name Deana James. And the “Valley Morning Star” named her “The Queen of Texas Pop History.”

“We are delighted to have Ms. Sizer discuss her work and share her outrageous tales with our patrons,” said Kristina Wilson, event organizer for STC. “Our libraries are a gateway to the community, and we hope participants not only take advantage of this fun activity, but also learn more about some of the great services that the college has to offer.”

While on campus, attendees can use the libraries’ free services or view artwork on display in their art galleries or register for a free STC Community Library Card.

For information about Sizer’s appearances call the STC Mid-Valley Campus Library at 956-447-6663 or the STC Pecan Campus Library at 956-872-8330.
