McAllen students get a glimpse into their futures at STC
Memorial High School students Stephanie Martinez and Ana Leal check out the many career and academic opportunities available to them once they graduate during the M.I.S.D Career Fair at STCs Technology Campus.
When you were a high school student, did you know what you wanted to be when you grew up? Did you wish that you had known what potential career options were available and how to get there? South Texas College and the McAllen Independent School District partnered together to host a career fair for M.I.S.D. juniors and seniors to get them thinking about their future careers, as well as what they must accomplish during the remainder of their high school careers to get there.
The event, which took place at STC’s Technology Campus, gave the students a chance to meet with local employers, as well as representatives from STC’s many academic programs, to find out more about the career requirements of different occupations.
Memorial High School students Stephanie Martinez and Ana Leal said that coming to the career fair allowed them to see the many career and academic opportunities available to them once they graduate. Martinez, who is interested in pursuing a career in engineering, spoke with STC Engineering Program representatives to get an idea of what she needs to do now to secure her future.
“I want to be a civil engineer when I get out of college, and I really enjoyed hearing that I’m doing everything right to get where I want to be,” she said. “Even though I came here knowing what I want to do already, the career fair is helping me see the programs and job opportunities available in the Valley in case I want to stay here for college or come back to work here after I earn my degree.”
