Commuters save money with new classes in La Joya

Gas prices continue to yo-yo, but have maintained their position well above $3 per gallon. In an effort to ease the economic burden on commuting students, South Texas College is offering a variety of classes in La Joya at Nellie Schunior Middle School located off Expressway 83. Classes begin August 25.

Approximately 28 classes will be offered and 23 of those classes will be offered in the evening after 5 p.m. The courses range in subject matter including art, business, college-level math, English, biology, kinesiology and Mexican-American studies, just to name a few.

“We understand the economic impact that gas prices have on our students and this is just another way we are working to ease their burden and make college accessible and affordable,” said Kim McKay, STC director of outreach. “No student should have to make the choice between the economic needs of their family and going to college. STC is committed to our students and will continue to develop  innovative ways to meet their needs.”
