STC student has global plans

Rosa Angelica Sanchez hopes to travel the world one day, but this is not the only dream that the Mission native wishes to fulfill in her lifetime. As the first person in her family to go to college, she plans to earn her associate’s degree from South Texas College and transfer to a four year university to pursue a career in international business.

Sanchez, who has a work-study position in the Academic Excellence Office, graduated from Veteran’s Memorial High School in Mission, and she decided to enroll at STC because it allowed her to remain close to her family in the Valley, while still allowing her to gain the skills necessary to achieve her goals.

Marie Olivarez from the Academic Excellence Office says that Sanchez is a motivated student with a strong work ethic who inspires her fellow employees.

“Angelica is an extraordinary worker, and a dedicated student,” said Olivarez. “She is always helping us in the office, and we can see that she has the potential to be a great businesswoman. We have no doubt that she will accomplish great things in her future.”

Sanchez credits her parents for giving her the support and encouragement to continue on her educational path.

“My parents are my drive to continue doing my best in school,” said Rosa.  “I want to go and do everything that they weren’t able to do. They always told me to be positive about my future, and to focus only on what I wanted to achieve and forged ahead and never look back.”

Sanchez says that her classes at STC have helped her learn how to adequately conduct business on a global level, and have provided her with the skills necessary to work for an international company.

“Choosing a career was not difficult at all for me,” said Rosa. “I’ve always wanted to be a businesswoman, and since I love the idea of trading with other countries and traveling the world, I think that a career in international business is perfect for me.”

What is your favorite course/instructor and why?
Math wasn’t my forte, but Mr. Enrique Arredondo helped change my attitude towards Mathematics. His Developmental Math Class is a great learning environment. He’s more than a teacher to his students, he’s a friend.

Why is completing a college degree important to you?
I want to be someone in life. I don’t want to follow someone’s footsteps; I want to set my own.

What are some of your past times?
I enjoy being involved in the community because it is very fulfilling for me to help others.

Do you plan to study abroad?
I hope to travel to different places to learn about the way they conduct business in these areas. My hope is to participate in international commerce through internships in other countries, especially Mexico.

What advice can you offer others considering continuing their education?
You should always think positive about what your plans are in the future. Never look back, focus only on what you want to achieve.
