Gateway to College
Gateway to College is an innovative program that is new to the Rio Grande Valley. This scholarship program was designed to help high school students that are not on track to graduate or have already dropped out a second chance to reconnect with their education. Through this program, students complete their high school diploma requirements at college while simultaneously earning college credits toward an associate’s degree or certificate. This opens doors for students who may have not had opportunities to go to college.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Between the ages of 16-20
- Lives in the Mission or McAllen School Districts
- Behind in high school credits for age/grade
- Have dropped out of high school
The Gateway to College Program of South Texas College has limited seating. Each candidate must go through a rigorous application and selection process to earn a Gateway to College Scholarship.
Steps to Apply for Scholarship
- Complete an application packet
- Attend an information session
- Attend a 2 day evaluation session
- Participate in an individual interview
- Selection committee review
- Attend commitment week
